The Sanctuary Village “Green” Way

Joining the Western Carolina Green Building Council has truly been an eye opening experience. Through the process of preparing our homes for NC Healthy Built and Energy Star certification, we've learned that every choice you make in the home building process - things as simple as paint and windows- can impact the environment for present and future generations.

That’s why we’ve made the decision to create Sanctuary Village and its homes in a way that not only lessens that impact but also strives to make things better. For today and tomorrow.

Sure, it would be easier to do things the way they’ve always been done. But easy isn’t always best. And here, in Sanctuary Village, we not only want to create an innovative community, we also want to create the kind of community residents can be proud to call home.

In order to accomplish that goal, we must weave our beliefs and desires through every aspect of the building process. From the inside, out.

To that end, we build each and every home with energy efficient pre-cast foundation walls and Low E windows. Then we add ceiling fans, high efficiency or tankless water heaters, and Energy Star labeled appliances. We use paint and finishes that contain low to zero VOC content and equip our kitchens with a built-in recycling center. All in an effort to foster efficiency and cleaner air.

Outside we follow all tree and natural vegetation preservation guidelines during construction and employ landscaping techniques that utilize native plants. The result is a picturesque setting that is not only preserved but also improved.

These efforts are just part of our commitment to the environment. But there’s more. In fact, the whole thought-process behind Sanctuary Village benefits the environment.

You see, by designing a walkable community with parks and shops, we are providing residents with an alternative to driving and costly gas bills. Sidewalks throughout the community, with connectivity from our homes to businesses and shops, encourage alternative means of transportation like walking and bicycling. Such alternatives not only save money but also promote a true neighborhood feel—the way life once was…in a simpler time.

The environment belongs to all of us. And while we might not be able to change the world overnight, we’re doing our best to make a difference in our own little corner known as Sanctuary Village.

I hope you’ll visit us soon. Consider it a step toward a simpler life where people spend time outdoors, bump into friends at the corner market and share their day with neighbors at the park.

A real community from the inside, out.
